More than 2500 of these engines have been sold to the marine market since 1998, bringing the total number of Wärtsilä 32 bore engines delivered to the marine market since the 1980s to more than 4500. The Wärtsilä 32 was created in response to a market need for a new engine in the 320 mm cylinder bore class.
It is built for long periods of maintenance-free operation and efficient, straightforward maintenance based on the most recent advancements in combustion technology. The engine has a carefully thought-out interface to external systems, as well as all necessary ancillaries.
The MARPOL 73/78 convention's Annex VI specifies the IMO Tier II exhaust pollution rules, which the Wärtsilä 32 engine complies with in full.
